Sports Massage
Despite it’s name, sports massage isn’t just intended for athletes and sports enthusiasts.
Sports massage aims to increase blood flow by using different techniques to help flush the muscles and loosen tight or injured parts of the body.
For the athletes and sports enthusiasts, a pre-game sports massage will flush muscles, and help the tissues to warm up in order to supply optimal blood flow for performance. A similar technique is used post-game, whereby, the toxins are removed from the muscles.
Sports massage is usually symptom-focussed, and this is where it becomes relevant for those outside of full time sports. Any dysfunctional issues within the muscles or connective tissues can be tackled with a sports massage, looking to both the cause and the symptom.
It is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused by repetitive and strenuous physical activity.
The Benefits:
Relax tight muscles
Fights fatigue

Carrying a baby changes your centre of gravity and puts a lot of stress on your hips, lower back, neck, abdominal muscles, and shoulders.
Pregnancy also relaxes your ligaments, meaning your pelvic joints are less stable, it also changes your posture, pulling your pelvis forward.
Further to this, the extra weight you're carrying can lead to an aching lower back.

Myofascial Cupping
Cupping is much like the inverse of massage, rather than applying pressure to muscles, it uses gentle pressure to pull the muscles upward.
It is an extremely useful tool in treating all sorts of symptoms and syndromes!
Myofascial cupping is used to help with pain, inflammation, enhance circulation and pull the toxins out that linger in your body’s tissue. The suctions pressure which is provided by the cups, can loosen muscles, encourage blood flow and sedate the nervous system.
Athletes sometimes use this method, as it can aid in the recovery process as increased blood flow from cups may help accelerate the repair of the damaged muscle fibres that result from hard training.
The Benefits:
Stimulate Blood Flow
Drain Lymph and cellular debris
Separate layers of connective tissue to bring hydration and blood flow to body tissues
Soften tight muscles

Dry needling is a treatment technique used by therapists to relieve muscle tension and pain.
It involves the insertion of thin needles into trigger points in the muscles, much like acupuncture.
With Dry Needling, the needles are used to target the trigger point of the problem muscle, this is known as the myofascial trigger point and is often described as a muscle ‘knot’ which contributes to muscle pain and dysfunction.
A number of needles, which will vary in length may be used and the duration for which the needle is left in will vary also. The intention is that the needles will stimulate a response from the Central Nervous System resulting in an easing of muscle tension.
